After OCs, Election Commission replaces all UNOs

Dhaka, Dec 2: The Election Commission (EC) has ordered the transfer of all Police Officers (OCs) of all Police Stations and Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) in a phased manner.

In the first phase of transfer, the period of service for OCs has been fixed at six months in the present post, while for UNOs it has been made one year. That is, those who have been serving as executive officers in the same upazila for one year or more, they have been instructed to transfer in the first step.

EC Deputy Secretary Md. Mizanur Rahman sent that instruction to the senior secretary of the Public Administration Ministry on Thursday. The EC gave instructions for this major transfer in view of the upcoming National Assembly elections. According to the instructions, the Election Commission has decided to transfer all the Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) in a phased manner to complete the upcoming Jatiya Sangsad elections. For this purpose, in the first phase, the upazila executive officers who have completed more than one year of service at their current workplace, the proposal for transfer to another district should be sent to the Election Commission by December 5.

Earlier, the Election Commission (EC) directed the Home Ministry to transfer the Officers-in-Charge (OC) of all police stations in the country. In the first phase, the commission has ordered the transfer of police station OCs who have been at their current post for more than six months to another district or another police station.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal met Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal in the morning on Thursday, Senior Secretary of Public Security Department, Mostafizur Rahman and IGP of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun and in the afternoon Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury, Senior Secretary of Public Administration Ministry. Immediately after that meeting, the proposal for this transfer came from the EC.

However, the Election Commission had already said that they will not take the initiative to transfer the administration or the law and order forces on the occasion of the election. Specifically, if there is any irregularity and it is necessary, only transfer will be considered.
