Another 17.7 lakh doses of Sinopharm coronavirus vaccine arrives in Dhaka
Dhaka, August 12: Another 17,70,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine from China reached Dhaka at 7:50 pm on Wednesday (August 11). An Emirates Airlines flight landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport with the vaccine shipment.
Relevant officials of the Directorate General of Health Sevices (DGHS) received the shipment. Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Maidul Islam Pradhan confirmed the information.
The flight left Beijing for Dhaka around 7:20 am on Wednesday.
Hualong Yan, an official of the Chinese embassy in Dhaka, shared this information on his Facebook post at around 5 pm. Earlier, 17 lakh doses of vaccine arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on a flight at 7:15 pm on Tuesday.
On July 3, 20 lakh vaccines bought commercially from China came to the country in the first phase. On July 17, another 20 lakh vaccines came in the second phase. Then on July 30 another 30 lakh doses were received. Besides, China have handed over 11 lakh vaccines to Bangladesh in two phases as gifts. In the first phase, on May 12, China gifted five lakh doses of the Sinopharm vaccine to Bangladesh. In the second phase it gave another six lakh doses of the vaccine.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh government has decided to buy another 6 crore doses of the Sinopharm vaccine from China.
