Arrested BNP leader Nipun Roy Chowdhury gets bail

Dhaka, June 16: The High Court has granted bail to BNP executive member and lawyer Nipun Roy Chowdhury in two separate cases of vandalism and arson. A virtual bench of the High Court comprising Justice Muhammad Abdul Hafeez and Justice Mohammad Ali passed the order on Wednesday (June 16).

Senior lawyer Zainul Abedin and lawyer Nitai Roy Chowdhury were in favor of the bail application in the court today. Deputy Attorney General Harun Aur Rashid represented the state.

On the day of Hefazat's strike on March 26, Nipun Roy Chowdhury was arrested from the Rayerbazar area of the capital by the white-clad law enforcement forces.

She is the daughter-in-law of BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and daughter of former minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury, who is also the party's vice-chairman.

She was arrested after a call record spread on social media, where she allegedly instructing party workers to set fire to her car.

A case was filed against her at Hazaribagh police station on charges of vandalism and arson. Besides, Nipun Roy Chowdhury was arrested in another case filed by Jatrabari Police Station on charges of illegal assembly, serious injury and attempted murder. She was also remanded in these two cases.
