ARSA top commander of Rohingya camp arrested

Dhaka, July 22: Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) Rohingya camp area military commander Hafez Noor Mohammad has been arrested by RAB. He was arrested in Shamlapur area of Teknaf on Friday night.

RAB's legal and media wing director Commander Khandaker Al Moin said that RAB had arrested six people, including the top terrorist of the terrorist organization 'ARSA' and the military commander of the Kutupalong Rohingya camp area, Hafez Noor Mohammad. At this time, foreign firearms and bullets were recovered from the scene. Around 10:30 pm on Friday, they were arrested in Goheen Hills of Shamlapur area of Baharchhara Union of Teknaf Upazila.

Detained Hafez Noor Mohammad is a resident of Kutupalong Rohingya Asylum Camp of Ukhia Upazila. He is the military commander of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (Arsa), a Myanmar armed group.

Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Abdus Salam Chowdhury, Assistant Director of RAB-15 Cox's Bazar Battalion's Law and Media Branch, said that the detained Arsa military commander Hafez Noor Mohammad is accused of involvement in various crimes including murder, kidnapping, extortion, human trafficking, drug trafficking and domination. There are multiple cases against him in Ukhia and Teknaf police stations.

He said that on Friday night, a special team of RAB conducted an operation after finding out that some members of armed groups of Myanmar were staying in the Gohin Hills of Shamlapur area of Teknaf Upazila for the purpose of criminal organization. Arsa Commander Hafez Noor Mohammad was arrested while fleeing on sensing the presence of RAB when they reached the spot.

Later, according to the information given by Hafez Noor Mohammad, 5 more members of Arsa were arrested. During the search at the spot, several local and foreign firearms and bullets were recovered.
