Train Accident At least 17 killed, many injured in Kishoreganj train accident
Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Oct 23: At least 17 people were killed when a freight train collided with a passenger train at Bhairab in Kishoreganj.
According to reports, the freight train hit Egarosindhur Express from opposite direction. In this, the last two compartments of Egarosindhur Express Godhuli train were crushed. So far, 17 passengers have lost their lives in this incident. Many people were injured. The death toll may rise.

The accident took place at Gainahati area near Bhairab junction around 3.30 pm on Monday.

An official of the Railway Ministry said that the accident took place outside the station immediately after the Egarosindhur Express Godhuli train left for Dhaka from Bhairab railway station.

After being hit by the freight train, the last two coaches of Egarosindhur Express train overturned.

Police, fire service and RAB are continuing rescue operations after the accident. Seven units of fire service are working on the spot. Since the accident took place, train movement on the Dhaka-Chittagong route has been stopped.

A senior official of Bangladesh Railway said preliminary investigation revealed that the collision occurred after the freight train violated the signal. The official added that the locomaster, assistant locomaster, and guard of the freight train involved in the accident have been suspended pending enquiry.
