Dhaka, August 24: An appeal hearing will begin soon to resolve the August 21 grenade attack case, Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader told reporters after paying homage at the Banani graveyard on the occasion of Ivy Rahman's death anniversary on Tuesday (August 24) morning.

"The trial is over [in the lower court]. Now it is in the appeal hearing in the High Court. I have learned from the Minister [Law Minister] that the hearing will be held soon despite the delay due to the coronavirus pandemic," Quader said.

"Today's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was the prime target on that day (August 21). Twenty-four leaders and activists, including Ivy Rahman, fell victim to the state terror while holding an anti-terror rally," he added.

Remembering Ivy Rahman, Quader said, "Today I am remembering all those killed that day, including Ivy Rahman. I never saw ego in her, such a selfless leader is rarely seen in Bangladesh. She never sat on the stage and always preferred to sit with the part workers. She was with the workers in a procession outside the truck that day."

Earlier, leaders of Awami League's Central Executive Parliament, Dhaka Metropolitan North and South and allied organizations paid homage to Ivy Rahman at Banani graveyard.

Awami League presidium member Matia Chowdhury led by the party's general secretary Obaidul Quader; Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif; Organizing Secretary Mirza Azam, SM Kamal Hossain; Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi; Office Secretary Barrister Biplob Barua; Top leaders including Women's Affairs Secretary Meher Afroz Chumki were present.

Today is the 17th death anniversary of Ivy Rahman. She was injured in a grenade attack on August 21, 2004 at an anti-terrorism, anti-militancy and anti-corruption rally organized by the Awami League in front of his central office and died on August 24 at the Combined Military Hospital.
