Dhaka, Feb 27: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir commented that Awami has become more reckless and authoritarian since the 12th National Assembly elections.

He made this comment in a statement signed by the office secretary of the party Md. Taiful Islam Tipu on Monday.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made this statement expressing concern over the denial of bail to BNP National Executive Committee member and former Member of Parliament of Dinajpur-4 Constituency Md. Akhtaruzzaman Mia and Chirirbandar Upazila BNP Joint Convener Nur Alam Siddiqui Nayan.

BNP Secretary General said, "Awami has become more reckless and authoritarian by seizing power through January 7 elections. In order to maintain state power, BNP and its affiliates and affiliated organizations have increased the level of repression in various ways on the leaders and activists of anti-democracy parties."

He said, "Md. Akhtaruzzaman Mia and Nur Alam Siddiqui Nayan's bail and sent to jail is a continuation of excessive oppression. At present, because there is no rule of law and good governance in the country, the leaders and activists participating in the democratic struggle are being deprived of justice. A totalitarian anarchy exists in the country. Fear and terror are being spread in the state-society to prolong misrule."

He said, "I am deeply concerned about the ongoing jailing of opposition leaders and activists with the help of the government through denial of bail, and I strongly demand their immediate release along with the withdrawal of the case filed against the former member of parliament, Md. Akhtaruzzaman Mia and the joint convener of Chirirbandar Upazila BNP, Nur Alam Siddiqui Nayan."
