Dhaka, January 19: Awami League General Secretary and Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader said the Awami League candidates have won the municipal elections by a wide margin because people want development.

He said a large number of voters were present in all the centers in the second phase of municipal elections. The government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been developing all sectors of the country. Awami League candidates have won by a wide margin as people want more development from this government.

The bridge minister made the remarks at the inaugural function of a four-day fire safety training program on Monday morning. He joined the ceremony via video conference from his official residence. He said the Awami League candidates have won by a wide margin because people want development. Where BNP candidates were active and popular, they have won. Even two of their rebel candidates have won. Now finding no fault, the voting gap is saying more.

The general secretary of the Awami League said that the Awami League candidate has won more votes due to the development and achievement of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, which is normal. They have nothing to say about what the BNP will ask the people to vote for.

"What else do they have to say to their people other than fire terrorism and burning people and becoming world champions in corruption?" The BNP has lost the confidence of the voters by not coming to the polls and not campaigning. The victory of the Awami League candidates is the victory of development. Huge margin of votes is the people's rejection of the negative politics of the BNP.

Expressing the people's spontaneous support against this victory in the municipal elections, the bridge minister said the BNP will learn from this gap and victory in the future.

Obaidul Quader expressed sorrow over the death of a councilor after the municipal elections and said those involved in the incident would be brought to justice. I am instructing the law enforcement agencies to be more strict to avoid clashes and violence in the next phase of municipal elections.
