Dhaka, November 9: Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader has said that the party has came to power after winning the hearts of the people. He made the remarks during a briefing at his official residence on Monday (November 9).

Obaidul Quader said, Awami League did not come to power by raising the barrel of gun. It came to power through the political process by enduring prison-torture and winning the hearts of the people. The Awami League believes in tolerance and therefore does not want to eliminate anyone or any party.

He said the Awami League has shown humanitarian and political generosity by suspending Begum Zia's sentence as it does not believe in minus or plus formula.

Mentioning conspiracies, lies and anti-election sentiments as the BNP culture, the Awami League general secretary said the government does not believe in depoliticization but wants a strong opposition. The General Secretary of the Awami League expressed hope that the newly elected President of the United States, Joe Biden, would contribute to the establishment of world peace as well as the establishment of a humane and compassionate world.

He said the relationship between the people of Bangladesh, the American people and the governments of the two countries would reach new heights. It will open new horizons for working together on common issues, including Rohingya repatriation, climate change and the elimination of militancy.

As a developing country in terms of regional issues, trade relations and migration, Obaidul Quader hopes that Bangladesh will continue to be a priority for the Joe Biden government.

On behalf of the Awami League, the General Secretary of the party congratulated the newly elected President and Vice President of the United States.
