Awami League meeting to finalise candidates for municipality polls

Dhaka, November 28: The Awami League will finalise its candidature for the post of mayor in 25 municipal elections on Saturday (December 28).

The candidature will be finalized at a meeting of the Awami League's Local Government Nomination Board at Ganobhaban at 3.30 pm today. Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will preside over it. Obaidul Quader, general secretary of the party, requested all concerned to attend the meeting in time in compliance with the health protection rules.

Candidates will be selected from 105 people who have collected forms to get the nomination of Awami League.

This time the Awami League has not sold the application form for party nomination to anyone other than the candidate proposed in the resolution signed by the president and general secretary of the concerned district / upazila / municipality. This activity of selling and submitting applications for nomination has been going on for the last four days. Friday was the last day.

According to the schedule announced by the Election Commission, the last date for submission of nominations is December 1, selection of nominations is December 3, withdrawal of candidature is December 10 and voting is December 28. EVM voting will be held in these municipalities.

On December 28, Panchagarh Sadar, Pirganj in Thakurgaon district, Fulbari in Dinajpur, Badarganj in Rangpur, Kurigram Sadar, Puthia and Katakhali in Rajshahi, Shahjadpur in Sirajganj, Chatmohar in Pabna, Khoksa in Kushtia, Chuadanga in Khunna, Barna in Khulna. Voting will be held in Bakerganj, Gafargaon in Mymensingh, Madan in Netrokona, Manikganj Sadar, Dhamrai in Dhaka, Sreepur in Gazipur, Dirai in Sunamganj, Baralekha in Moulvibazar, Shayestaganj in Habiganj and Sitakunda in Chittagong.
