Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Sept 13: Awami League has dismissed Pankaj Debnath, a member of Barisal District Branch Awami League Advisory Council and member of Parliament from Barisal-4 Constituency, on the charge of violating party discipline.

Awami League's office secretary Biplab Barua has mentioned in the suspension letter that he has been removed from all other party positions including the position of member of the advisory council of the Awami League Barisal district on the charge of breaking the institutional order in the power delegated according to the constitution of the Awami League executive parliament organization. His written response on the said matter is requested to be submitted to the central office department within the next fifteen (15) days as per the organizational instructions.

It is known that Pankaj Debnath has been dismissed from the party due to conflict in Barisal district Awami League politics. He also gave a status on social media about the controversy.

Even Pankaj Debnath himself cannot say anything specific about the main reason for the suspension. However, the district Awami League feels that MP Pankaj Debnath is involved in numerous 'misdeeds'. Which the centre knows more than the local Awami League. Barisal Awami League has returned to relief with such a decision of the centre.

Pankaj Debnath led the central committee of the Chhatra League with great pride and got the responsibility of the founding general secretary of the Central Volunteer League. He was also injured in a grenade attack on August 21, 2004. In 2014, he was elected Member of Parliament from Barisal-4 (Hijla-Mehendiganj) constituency after getting the party nomination. Within three years, he got involved in controversy.

Upazila Awami League leaders alleged that party leaders and workers were tortured, conflicts were created in the party, huge wealth was acquired through corruption, buses were set on fire during negotiations, and even killed with his help. Leaders and activists of the Awami League held press conferences bringing these allegations at different times. The news of his release has given rise to new discussions.
