Dhaka, June 22: Tomorrow is the 74th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Awami League, the leading party in achieving the country's independence through the great liberation war. A detailed program has been taken up by the party on the occasion of the day.

The journey of this political party began with the establishment of the East Pakistan Awami Muslim League on June 23, 1949 in the traditional Rose Garden of old Dhaka. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was in jail at the time of its founding. He was made joint general secretary. Centrally, Pakistan Awami Muslim League was formed but later on it was renamed as 'Awami League' to reflect more non-communal political ideals.

After the victory in the 1954 elections, the word Muslim was removed from the name of the party in the Council of Awami Muslim League held in 1955. And the two words 'East Pakistan' were omitted from the time of Bangladesh's independence war. Since the declaration of independence in Bangladesh, the name Bangladesh Awami League has been used in all the documents of the expatriate government. Since 1970, the election symbol of this party is the boat. Later, this organization, one of the oldest in the country, became an organization of the people of this country by leading every democratic, political and social movement including the independence and liberation war of Bangladesh.

Awami League president Sheikh Hasina thinks that Bangladesh Awami League is a party of soil and people. People are the main strength of Awami League. Under the leadership of Awami League, the student movement of '62, the prevention of communal riots in '64, the writing of the Bengali Liberation Charter through the six-point movement of '66 and the promise of ending autocracy through the mass movement of '69 made the party a refuge for the freedom-seeking people. Because of the leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib, Awami League was given the mandate of liberation by the people of East Bengal in the 1970 elections.

Since its establishment, every achievement and achievement in this land has been under the leadership of Awami League. Awami League is at the root of all the achievements of Bengali and all the development of Bangladesh, starting from protecting the dignity of mother tongue Bengal till today.
