Bailey Road fire: Death toll climbs to 46

Dhaka, March 1: The death toll in a fire that broke out in a multi-storey building in Dhaka's Bailey Road has risen to 46. The death toll could go up as several injured are currently undergoing treatments in very critical conditions.

Health Minister Samanta Lal Sen gave this information at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery this (Friday, March 1) morning.

He said that 10 people are admitted in Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute and two people are admitted in Dhaka Medical College Hospital. All are in critical condition.

The health minister said that treatment has been arranged for all on the instructions of the Prime Minister.

The fire service received the report of a fire in a restaurant in a building on Bailey Road in the capital yesterday (Thursday, Feb 29) night at 9:50 pm.

The fire was brought under control at around 11:50 pm with the efforts of 13 units of fire service.

After extinguishing the fire, the injured were rescued and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and President Md. Shahabuddin have expressed deep grief and sorrow over this fire incident. Their condolence messages expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family members.
