Baily Road fire: Deceased family of five buried side by side

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 2 March 2024: Five people from Brahmanbaria, who died in a fire in a building on Bailey Road in Dhaka, have been buried side by side. After the funeral on Friday afternoon, they were buried in the family graveyard of Syed Bari, Khandkar Para, Shahbazpur Union of Sarail Upazila. Earlier, the bodies of five people arrived at the village house in an ambulance around 4 o'clock in the afternoon. After the Asr prayer, the funeral was held in the premises of the local mosque.

The deceased are Italian expatriate Syed Mubarak Hossain Kausar (50), son of Abul Kasem of Shahbazpur village of Sarail upazila of the district, his wife Sapna (35), daughters Kashfia (17) and Noor (13) and son Abdullah (7). They lived in a rented house in Madhubagh area of the capital.

Relatives of the family said the entire family got visas to go to Italy. That is why a 'get together' was organized at their home in Dhaka next Sunday. But everything turned out to be a nightmare. The whole family was gone.

The deceased Syed Mubarak Hoses was originally a resident of Singapore. Then he moved to Italy about 20 years ago. A month and a half ago, Mubarak returned home from Italy after almost two years. He also procured visas and tickets to take his wife and children to Italy. They were supposed to go to Italy on March 20. On Thursday night, he went to eat at 'Kacchi Bhai' restaurant with his wife and children. Mubarak, his wife Swapna Akhtar, daughters Kashfia, Noor and son Abdullah died in the fire there.
