Dhaka, April 5: RAB has rescued the kidnapped manager of Sonali Bank in Bandarban, Nezam Uddin.

This information was confirmed by Ruma Upazila Nirbahi Officer (Acting) Md. Didarul Alam on Thursday evening.

He said, "After the rescue, Nezam Uddin is in our custody. Details will be given later."

Earlier on April 2 (Tuesday) night, Sonali Bank was attacked by separatist armed organization Kuki-Chinese National Front (KNF) terrorists. They shut down the local electrical sub-station. Later snatched the key of the vault from the bank cashier in the local tea shop. But the KNF members took him away after not getting the other set of keys from the bank manager who was in the mosque for Tarabi prayers.

Locals said that at around 9:30 pm on that day, armed robbers attacked and broke the grill of the bank and looted the money in the locker and 14 firearms used for security. At the beginning of the attack, they beat the police and Ansar members in charge of the Upazila Parishad and took away weapons and mobile phones. Many of the attackers were wearing clothing bearing the KNF logo.

Meanwhile, RAB's legal and media wing director Commander Khandaker Al Moin said in the capital's Caravan Bazaar on Thursday that the mountain terrorist organization Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) has demanded a ransom of Tk 15 to 20 lakhs to release the kidnapped manager.

He said, "In the meantime, the manpower has been increased in the Bandarban camp. Besides, skilled RAB members have been sent to Bandarban from the RAB headquarters for hill operations. As you know it is very difficult to operate in hilly areas due to geographical location. Therefore, it is difficult to carry out an expedition in the mountains without experience. Taking everything into account, RAB is working to recover the abducted bank officials and weapons with the help of the army."
