Bandarban: Rohingya killed during gunfight with BGB
Dhaka: A Rohingya was killed in an alleged gunfight with border guards in Bandarban. Weapons and yaba were recovered from the spot.
BGB Cox's Bazar-34 Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Ali Haider Azad Ahmed said the incident took place in Makkartila area of Ghumdhum Union in Naikhyangchhari Upazila on Wednesday morning. The deceased was identified as Mohammad Adham, 23, son of Abul Hasim, a resident of Tambru Konarpara Rohingya Camp in Naikhyangchhari.
Ali Haider said a BGB team took position at the spot on the news of a large consignment of yaba coming from Myanmar. At one stage, BGB members saw a group of 10/12 people coming from Myanmar and ordered them to stop. At that time, when they fired at the BGB, the BGBO fired back in self-defense. At one point, they fled through the mountainous jungle to Myanmar. He was later rescued from the spot with gunshot wounds and taken to Ukhia Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Besides, 40,000 yaba, one domestic single-barreled gun and two bullets were recovered from the spot, said a BGB official.
