Bandarban: Wild elephant kills 2

Dhaka, Jan 24, 2021: Two people have been killed in a wild elephant attack at Alikadam in Bandarban.

The incident took place at midnight on Saturday (January 23).

According to police and local sources, a herd of wild elephants ransacked crop lands and several houses in Reparpara area of ​​Chaikshyang Union in Alikadam Upazila. One died on the spot after being attacked by a wild elephant.

Upon receiving the news, the locals were able to chase away the elephants by chasing them with fire and sticks. But another died on the way to hospital with injuries from the scene.

The deceased were identified as Mansur Alam, 18, and Humayun Kabir, 14. The deceased were residents of Reparpara Kona area.

Alikadam Upazila Chairman. Abul Kalam said that wild elephant herds from the border areas of Myanmar used to roam in the hilly areas of Chittagong's adjoining upazilas through Alikadam, Naikhyangchhari, Lama and Bandarban Sadar upazilas.

Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Alikadam Police Station Rakib Uddin said the bodies of the two killed in the wild elephant attack have been recovered. A case is being prepared at the police station.
