Bangabandhu Lounge inaugurated at Bangladesh Mission to UN

Dhaka, June 15: Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has inaugurated the 'Bangabandhu Lounge' at the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations as part of the celebration of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The 'Bangabandhu Lounge' was inaugurated on Monday (June 14) at the Bangladesh Permanent Mission to the United Nations.

Inaugurating the lounge, the Foreign Minister said various aspects of the life and work of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman have been highlighted in the lounge through various books, pictures, documentaries and graphical displays. This collection of Bangabandhu Lounge seems to have highlighted the deep trust and faith of the Father of the Nation in multilateralism, especially in the United Nations.

He expressed interest in providing more books and exhibitions on Bangabandhu in the lounge.

"Although the installation of the lounge was completed last year, its official inauguration was not possible due to Covid-19. I believe that the lounge will remind the missionaries of the dream and ideals of the Father of the Nation towards world peace," Bangladesh's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Rabab Fatima, said.

According to the Bangladesh Mission to the United Nations, the lounge will be used for meetings of high-level delegations from the United Nations and member states. As a result, they will get an opportunity to get an idea about Bangabandhu's life style.

Meanwhile, Atul Khare, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Office for Operational Support, praised Bangladesh for its outstanding contribution to UN peacekeeping operations. He held a bilateral meeting with Foreign Minister Momen on Monday. Atul Khare praised Bangladesh at that time.

During the meeting, the Foreign Minister reiterated Bangladesh's commitment to UN peacekeeping operations. He thanked Atul Khare for his assistance in various fields, including the inclusion of Bangladesh Biman in the UN peacekeeping mission.

At the time, General Khare praised Bangladesh for its outstanding contribution to UN peacekeeping operations. He thanked Bangladesh for taking the lead in implementing the UN Environmental Protection Strategy at the field level of peacekeeping operations. Khar praised Bangladesh's constant readiness to deploy peacekeepers with the necessary equipment.
