Dhaka, March 17: The 103rd birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the architect of independent Bangladesh, was observed across the country through various programs on Friday. The day is celebrated as 'National Children's Day' across the country.

The architect of independent Bangladesh, the undisputed leader of the Bengali nation, was born on this day in 1920 in a noble Muslim family in Tungipara of Gopalganj district. On the occasion of Bangabandhu's birthday, the day-long program of Awami League and its various organs and affiliated organizations began with the hoisting of the national and party flags at 6 am on Thursday.

Other programs included wreath laying at the tomb and portrait of the Father of the Nation, cake cutting, milad mahfil, prayer, discussion meeting, procession, cultural program, voluntary blood donation, free medical care, prize distribution, documentary screening, painting competition, food among the needy etc.

On the occasion of the day, in the morning, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid tribute to Bangabandhu's portrait in front of the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum on Road No. 32 in Dhanmondi. After laying the wreath, the Prime Minister stood in silence for some time as a sign of deep respect for the memory of the founder of the country, Bangabandhu. At this time a sad tune was played on the bugle. A smart contingent of the Army, Navy and Air Force provided a guard of honor on the occasion.

After that, Sheikh Hasina along with the central leaders of Awami League paid tribute to Bangabandhu's portrait on behalf of the party.

Later at 10 am, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid floral tributes at the tomb of Bangabandhu at Tungipara in Gopalganj. On this occasion, a smart contingent of Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force provided a guard-of-honour. Later, Awami League president Sheikh Hasina along with senior party leaders laid another wreath at Bangabandhu's tomb on behalf of the party.

The President's wife Rashida Khanum, his son Rezwan Ahmad Taufiq MP and the Prime Minister and her family members paid their respects to Bangabandhu individually by laying wreaths.

On the occasion of the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs organized a function at his mausoleum complex. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina participated in the program as the chief guest. On the occasion of Bangabandhu's birthday and National Children's Day, high-quality food was served to all government hospital patients across the country.
