Dhaka, Feb 27: Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan said that although the contribution of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the language movement was important, the matter remained largely neglected.

He made this comment while addressing a discussion meeting and cultural program titled 'Bangabandhu's Role in Language Movement and Use of Bengali Language at All Levels' at Abdul Karim Literary Specialist Auditorium of Bangla Academy on Monday afternoon.

The Chief Justice said that a lot of research has been done on various chapters of Bangabandhu's long political life. But his contribution to the great language movement has been less researched. In the past few years, especially on the occasion of Mujib Centenary, many books have been published about Bangabandhu's life, political philosophy and various mass movements led by Bangabandhu. But for some strange reason, Bangabandhu's contribution to the language movement has been largely ignored. But young Sheikh Mujib's journey to become Bangabandhu started with this language movement.

The Chief Justice added, "I discovered Bangabandhu's genuine compassion for our beloved mother tongue and his uncompromising attitude in ensuring the use of the mother tongue at all levels including protecting the dignity of the mother tongue from three different perspectives. Firstly, by observing Bangabandhu's active role and dynamic leadership in various phases of the language movement from 1947 to 1952. Second, in the Constituent Assembly constituted to draft the Constitution of Pakistan. Through his uncompromising stance to declare Bengali as the state language as a member and the third is because of his efforts in popularizing Bengali language at all levels including establishing the status of Bengali language as Prime Minister and President of independent Bangladesh."

"If Bangabandhu's contributions to protect the dignity of the language are not highlighted separately, then some things will remain incomplete," he said, adding that if Bangabandhu's contributions to the language movement and protecting the dignity of the Bengali language are not highlighted separately from Bangabandhu's long political life, then in this language month, we will The arrangements we are making to remember the martyrs will remain somewhat incomplete.
