Dhaka, March 24: Nepal's President Bidya Devi Bhandari said Bangabandhu had a deep love and respect for the Bengali language, terming him as a proponent of protection and development of Bengali language with the support of the people of Bangladesh, while speaking as the guest of the sixth day of a 10-day program organised under the theme 'Mujib Chirantan' on the occasion of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's birth centenary and golden jubilee of independence at Parade Square in the capital on Monday.

The theme of the day's program was 'Banglar Mati, Amar Mati'.

Vidya Devi said, "As an outstanding speaker, organizer and warrior, Bangabandhu achieved the goal of winning the hearts of the people of Bangladesh and building a new nation. He is a respected leader of the region."

He said, "We have also come to know about Bangabandhu's generosity towards the weak, oppressed, poor and helpless people. Bangladesh was born as a result of his tireless struggle."

The President of Nepal said, "Today we are happy to see Bangabandhu's role in establishing an independent Bangladesh, his birth centenary being celebrated across the country in recognition of his contribution."

Congratulating the government and people of Bangladesh on the occasion of Bangabandhu's birth centenary, he said, "Bangabandhu has been a pioneer of Bangladesh's freedom struggle from a young age.

Presided over by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and conducted by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam, it was attended by President Abdul Hamid, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni and author Selina Hossain.

Besides, five hundred invited guests including First Lady of Bangladesh Rashida Hamid, Bangabandhu's youngest daughter Sheikh Rehana, Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, daughter of the President of Nepal Usha Kiran Bhandari were present.

The first part of the discussion program runs from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm. Then there was a 30-minute break from 6pm to 6:30 pm. In the second phase, the cultural program runs from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm.
