Dhaka, Feb 22: Reiterating Bangladesh's stance not to engage in war with anyone, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday (Feb 22) said would boost its defences aiming to protect independence and sovereignty.

Addressing the Golden Jubilee of the Territorial Waters and Maritime Zones Act by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Prime Minister said, “We will not engage in war with anyone. But we have to be able to defend our independence and sovereignty."

State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury presided over the function at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC).

Sheikh Hasina said, "Following the footsteps of Bangabandhu, the government has formulated "Forces Goal 2030" and is implementing it."

She said, “...as a free country we will do whatever is necessary. We are working towards that."

The Prime Minister said that the Territorial Waters and Maritime Zones Act, 1974 is serving as an important guideline and will continue to do so in the future.

She pointed out that the vast maritime area that Bangladesh has acquired will contribute a lot to the country's economy.
