Bangladesh: Assembly session begins tomorrow

Own representative, Dhaka, January 18, 2021: The eleventh session of the Eleventh National Assembly will begin tomorrow at 4:30 pm.

President. Abdul Hamid convened the session on December 30 with the powers conferred by Article 72 (1) of the Constitution.

As the first session of the year, the President said. Abdul Hamid will address Parliament on the first day of the session. The President's speech has already been approved in the cabinet. The speech will highlight in detail the successes and future plans of the government including its development activities. A number of bills could be raised and passed in this session without the President's address.

This time too the session will be held in compliance with all the hygiene rules. Besides, on the first day, media personnel will be able to go to the Parliament session and collect news. The rest of the working day Parliament will have to collect the news of the session from Bangladesh Television.

Meanwhile, the session will be short again at this time of the Corona epidemic. The duration of the first session of the year is usually longer. In particular, a long discussion was held on the motion of thanks brought in the President's speech. But it will also be shortened in Corona. As such, the session may last for 10 to 12 working days, the Parliament Secretariat said.
Earlier, on the occasion of Mujibarsh, the special session of the Jatiya Sangsad started on November 8 and lasted till November 19 for a total of 10 working days. Out of 10 working days, 5 working days special sessions were conducted from 9th to 15th November. A total of 9 government bills were passed in that session.

Besides, a discussion was held on the proposal (general) under Rule 148 of the Rules of Procedure raised by the Prime Minister and Leader of the House Sheikh Hasina. At the end of the discussion, the proposal was adopted unanimously.
