Bangladesh Bank bans bankers from travelling abroad

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, May 23: Bangladesh Bank has announced that to deal with the situation created due to the dollar, bank officials and employees of all posts will not be allowed to travel abroad.

The directive was issued on Sunday (May 22) under the signature of the central bank's General Manager Md. Ali Akbar Faraji.

The directive, sent to the managing directors and chief executive officers of all scheduled banks in the country, said that the country's foreign exchange reserves (dollars) should be consolidated in the face of the effects of COVID-19 in the face of economic recovery and global economic instability due to war abroad. Banks have been instructed recently. As part of this, some restrictions are imposed on the import of a number of non-essential goods, including luxury goods.

The directive further said that the use of foreign currency (dollar) has also increased in this regard as the officers and employees of the bank continue to travel abroad to participate in various trainings, meetings, seminars, workshops and study tours, including private trips abroad. In this context, until the further order is issued, the bank officials and employees will be barred from traveling abroad to participate in training, meetings, seminars, workshops and study tours, including private foreign trips.
