Bangladesh: Budget session to begin today

Dhaka, 31 May 2023 : The budget session of the Jatiya Sangsad will start today at 5 pm.

Earlier on Tuesday, in the presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Parliament Secretariat Commission meeting approved the budget projection of the National Parliament.

The meeting was chaired by Speaker of the National Assembly Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury.

Prime Minister and Parliament Leader Sheikh Hasina attended the meeting.

Besides, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, Leader of Opposition in Parliament Begum Roshan Ershad MP and Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Haque participated in the meeting.

Jatiya Sangsad Chief Whip Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury MP attended the meeting on special invitation.

In the meeting, the revised budget of the Bangladesh National Parliament for the fiscal year 2022-2023 is 308 crore 18 lakh 66 thousand taka in the management and development sector, the budget estimate of 337 crore 60 lakh taka in the management and development sector in the financial year 23-24, 361 crore 23 lakh taka in the financial year 24-25 and 25-26 A budget projection of Tk 386 crore 52 lakh was approved for the financial year.

At the beginning of the meeting, besides confirming the minutes of the last 33rd Parliament Secretariat Commission meeting, the implementation of the decisions taken and the progress report were discussed.

Besides, the progress of the ongoing projects of the Parliament Secretariat was discussed in the meeting.

KM Abdus Salam, Senior Secretary of Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat, presented the agenda in the meeting.

The concerned officers were present in the meeting.

It should be noted that the budget session of the National Parliament will start at 5 pm on Wednesday.

This is the 23rd session of the ongoing 11th National Parliament. The proposed national budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2023-24 will be presented in this session on Thursday (June 1).

How long the budget session will last will be decided in the working advisory committee meeting of the parliament. The meeting of this committee will be held at 4 pm before the beginning of this session.
