Dhaka, October 13: US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has organised a program on sustainable assistance to the Rohingya on 22 October which will have the participation of the United Kingdom, the European Union and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Although Bangladesh has been invited to participate in the event, it has not yet been announced what will be discussed. However, the government does not agree with the information that Bangladesh has received from various sources about the meeting and the content that will be discussed.

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said, "We have heard that they will talk about 10 years of humanitarian aid. But we have been taking help for a year now. We have no interest in the long term. We want to say goodbye to the Rohingyas as soon as possible."

The main goal of Bangladesh is repatriation. "We are not interested in who will pay how much in 10 years," he said. "One says, multi-year planning. But we are not talking about multi-year planning. Multi-year plan for Rohingya rehabilitation. But we are not interested in that."

He added, "They say the regional countries will give shelter to the Rohingya. But we think it's not just a regional issue, it's a global issue and everyone should come forward. But they say it's better to be in the region."

The rescue and landing of Rohingyas who have drowned in the sea will be in this area. In other words, they have no responsibility, the minister said, "We do not believe in it. Earlier we told the Europeans - why don't you take them, with your ships. That's why they seems to be trying to get angry with us."

The foreign minister said Bangladesh should be the number one player in that meeting. "We are at a disadvantage for the Rohingya," he said. "They said it with empty mouth. But we have to give details about what to talk about and we will understand and participate."

Asked if Myanmar would be present at the meeting, the foreign minister said, "Maybe, we have not been told anything."

Regarding the security of the Rohingya camp, he said, "We are thinking of providing fencing. If not, how the fight has started. Other businesses, including drugs, have started. We have to take control of the camp."
