Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Nov 15: World Bank South Asia Vice-President Martin Raiser said, Bangladesh has surprised the whole world with its extraordinary development.

He described it as a successful development event.

He said, "Bangladesh is a successful area of ​​development and has made a very impressive achievement. Bangladesh is becoming one of the surprising countries with its development."

He made this comment during a courtesy meeting with Sheikh Hasina at the Prime Minister's office on Monday.

In the discussion, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that Bangladesh wants to maintain free and transparent relations with the world. Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed the journalists after the meeting.

Referring to the Russia-Ukraine war, Sheikh Hasina requested the World Bank to take measures to stop the war. Because the whole world is affected by the crisis due to the war. Referring to the issue of climate change, the Prime Minister said that his government is working on adaptation and mitigation with countries' own resources. She also laid emphasis on strengthening connectivity to further accelerate development.

Sheikh Hasina said that her government is developing the country with short, medium and long-term plans and is implementing Delta Plan 2100 so that the people can ensure a better and beautiful life from generation to generation. The Prime Minister also said that his government has successfully implemented the MDGs and is now working on the implementation of the SDGs.

The World Bank official said, they will continue to support the development efforts of Bangladesh. Martin Riser proposed to jointly celebrate 50 years of relationship between Bangladesh and the World Bank. He also handed over a photograph of Robert Strange McNamara, former president of the World Bank, taken with the Father of the Nation on 31 January 1972 at the Ganabhaban.
