Bangladesh-India Friendship Day is being celebrated in 18 countries today

Own representative, Dhaka, 6 December: 50 years of Bangladesh-India relations are going to be celebrated this year. On this occasion, the two countries are jointly celebrating Friendship Day on Monday (December 6). Apart from Dhaka and Delhi, Bangladesh-India Friendship Day is being celebrated in 18 countries of the world.

An event is being organized at Bangabandhu International Conference Center on the occasion of Bangladesh-India Friendship Day. Senior officials from the foreign ministries of the two countries will take part in the event. During the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bangladesh in March this year to attend the Independence Day celebrations of Bangladesh, it was decided to celebrate December 6 as Friendship Day.

On December 6, 1971, 10 days before the independence of Bangladesh, India recognized Bangladesh. India is the first countries to establish bilateral diplomatic relations with Bangladesh. Apart from Dhaka and Delhi, Friendship Day is being celebrated in 16 countries of the world this year. These countries are: Belgium, Canada, Egypt, Indonesia, Russia, Qatar, Singapore, United Kingdom, Australia, France, Japan, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Switzerland, Thailand, United Arab Emirates and United States.

On the occasion of Friendship Day, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Bangladesh and India have undertaken a year-long program to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations on various fronts. Bangabandhu-Bapu digital exhibition is being displayed in different cities of Bangladesh and India. The exhibition jointly inaugurated by the Prime Ministers of Bangladesh and India during the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Dhaka in March 2021. The two leaders also unveiled stamps commemorating 50 years of Bangladesh-India friendship.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of friendship between the two countries, exchange of visits of veterans of war, inspection of ships, sports program, cultural and other programs are also being organized.
