Dhaka, March 4: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has hailed Bangladesh a country of communal harmony.

"Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony. The Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist and Christian communities of the country are living in harmony,” the Prime Minister said in a message on the occasion of the national funeral of Bhadanta Jinananda Mahather, vice-president of the Bangladesh Sangharaja Bhikku Mahasabha.

Sheikh Hasina said, "We are working relentlessly to build the golden Bangladesh of the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with a thousand years of cultural heritage and the spirit of the great liberation war. The ongoing development of Bangladesh is visible to the world today."

Mentioning that the followers of Buddhism in this country have been participating in all kinds of activities including socio-economic development of the country, the Prime Minister said, "Buddhist people and Buddhist monks have contributed immensely to the great independence of Bangladesh. Followers of different religions have been living side by side for a long time, setting a wonderful example of friendship and harmony. Buddhist gurus have an important role to play in upholding this bond of friendship and harmony. "

The Prime Minister paid deep homage to the memory of Bhadanta Jinananda Mahather, Principal of Mahabodhi Buddhist Monastery in Lohagara Upazila of Chittagong and Vice President of Bangladesh Sangharaja Bhikku Mahasabha Karmabir.

Sheikh Hasina said, "Karmabir Bhadanta Jinananda Mahath has worked all his life for the welfare of humanity with his non-communal spirit. He has established many educational and service institutions. Throughout his life, he has preached the message of unity, solidarity, friendship and peace in the society and home society at home and abroad."

The Prime Minister said, "People will be able to know about his contribution to the national life through the book 'Jinananda Dyuti' commemorating the national funeral of Karmabir Bhadanta Jinananda Mahathir. I welcome this beautiful initiative."

The Prime Minister wished overall success to the funeral.
