Dhaka, October 11: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that Durga Puja is not just a festival of the Hindu community, it is now a universal festival. The destruction of evil spirits and the worship of truth and beauty are the main features of the autumn festival. She made the remarks in a message on the occasion of Durga Puja, the main religious festival of the Hindu community in the country, on Monday (October 11).

Greeting all the Hindu citizens of the country, the Prime Minister said Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony.

"Inspired by the mantra 'Religion belongs to one, festivals belong to everyone', we celebrate all religious festivals together in Bangladesh. Our constitution guarantees equal rights to people of all religions and castes. Bangladesh is the safe abode of all people irrespective of religion and caste. The present Awami League government is developing everyone irrespective of caste, religion, caste and group. People of all religions are enjoying the benefits of equal development," the Prime Minister said.

Requesting the celebration of Durga Puja in compliance with the health rules, Sheikh Hasina said, "We are taking necessary steps to combat the coronavirus infection. All cooperation has continued. We all have to come forward in cooperation with each other."

Inspired by the spirit of the great war of liberation, she called for building the golden Bangladesh of the dream of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation, keeping the non-communal spirit high. On the occasion of Durga Puja, she wished peace, welfare and prosperity to all citizens, including Hindus.
