Dhaka, May 29: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said Bangladeshi peacekeepers have been working with professionalism, efficiency and dedication to establish peace in different parts of the world despite the Corona epidemic and have won the confidence of the people of those countries by bringing peace back to the war-torn country. The pride and dignity that Bangladesh has gained today as an active participant in peacekeeping all over the world is the result of the outstanding professionalism, courage, heroism and skill of the peacekeepers.
She made the remarks in a message on the occasion of "International United Nations Peacekeeping Day-2021" on Saturday (May 29).
The Prime Minister said, "I am happy to know that 'International United Nations Peacekeeping Day-2021' is being celebrated in Bangladesh as in other countries of the world."
The theme of this year's International Peacekeeping Day, "The Path to Sustainable Peace: Using the Power of Youth for Peace and Security," is timely.
On the occasion, the Prime Minister said, "On this occasion, I proudly recall the important role of Bangladesh in UN peacekeeping operations and extend my heartfelt greetings and congratulations to all the members of the peacekeeping mission in Bangladesh. The flag has been hoisted. I seek the forgiveness of their souls and extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved family members. "
Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh became a member of the United Nations on September 17, 1974 and in her historic speech delivered in Bengal on September 25 at the UN General Assembly, the greatest Bengali of all time, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman reaffirmed Bangladesh's continued support for peace in the world. Since then, Bangladesh has maintained good relations with all peace-loving and friendly countries of the world and has been actively participating in all peacekeeping activities under the auspices of the United Nations to establish world peace.
The Prime Minister said Bangladesh is one of the largest contributors of peacekeepers to UN peacekeeping operations today. The unique contribution of Bangladesh peacekeepers in UN missions and multinational forces has brightened the image of the country in the eyes of the world and made it a dignified state in the world.
At the same time, our country is playing an important role in developing its diplomatic relations with the economically and militarily strong countries of the world.
