Dhaka, December 3: Bangladesh is interested in having indirect relations with Quad, a four-nation alliance, and Dhaka wants to consider Japan as a medium for this. Although Beijing considers this alliance anti-China, considering the future, Bangladesh wants to have indirect involvement with the Quad.

In this regard, Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen said, "Japan is a member of the Quad and an important country in the Indo-Pacific region. For this reason, if we can improve and strengthen relations with Tokyo, we can create a kind of communication and platform even without being directly involved with Quad or Indo-Pacific.

He said, "Currently, there is a turbulent situation in the geo-political field. In this situation, there is a need to establish strategic relations with various countries taking into account the capabilities of Bangladesh. This will increase the depth of our capabilities.

Integrated partnership between Bangladesh and Japan improved in 2014. The two countries now want to take that relationship to a strategic level.

The foreign secretary said, "Historically, our relationship with Japan is very good. We were expecting the announcement to elevate our integrated partnership relationship to a strategic relationship. The decision has been finalized. Regarding the Prime Minister's visit to Japan, he said, "The Prime Minister was supposed to go to Japan, but it has been postponed. A new date is being worked on.

Masood Bin Momen said that the Covid situation in Japan was escalating, "The events we were supposed to hold were gradually being reduced and we considered it better to do it later."

Bangladesh has made a lot of progress in the last 50 years and is expected to be a trillion dollar economy in the future. In this context many countries have taken a new approach to Bangladesh targeting the expanding market of Bangladesh.

The foreign secretary said that Bangladesh will be a one lakh crore dollar economy and our middle class is growing. He said, "Our spending power is increasing. Our domestic market is now one of the largest in the world. This internal market is attractive to many countries. They will invest here or want to do business. In 2026, Bangladesh will pass from the list of least developed countries. As a result, the country will be deprived of many commercial and economic benefits. The Foreign Secretary emphasized the need to take multi-pronged steps to tackle this challenge.
