Bangladesh is one of the 30 priority countries of the United Nations

Dhaka: Mami Mizutori, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction, said that Bangladesh is one of the 30 priority countries announced by the UN Secretary-General.

Bangladesh will be assisted on a priority basis to deal with the negative effects of climate change and natural disasters.

This support will be provided for various types of disaster preparedness, monitoring, communication and early warning systems and for the promotion of green technology after determining the need.

Pointing out that Bangladesh has made appreciable progress in various social indicators, he said, the world has a lot to learn from Bangladesh.

He said this in a bilateral meeting in the meeting room of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change at the secretariat on Tuesday. Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Shahab Uddin.

The minister said that Bangladesh government is committed to save people's lives and livelihood from the effects of climate change.

For this purpose Delta Plan 2100, National Adaptation Plan and Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan are being implemented.

He said that biodiversity protection and climate adaptation and mitigation activities require huge funding. In these cases, Bangladesh can be successful in fulfilling various international commitments including the SDGs if it gets the necessary support from international organizations including the United Nations.

In the meeting, among others, the Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. Farhina Ahmed, Additional Secretary (Administration) Iqbal Abdullah Haroon, Additional Secretary (Environment) Sanjay Kumar Bhowmik, Additional Secretary (Development) Dr. Fahmida Khanum, UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh Gwen Lewis, UNDRR Regional Office Head for Asia and the Pacific Marco Toscano-Rivalta and others were present.
