Dhaka: General Secretary of Awami League and Minister of Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader said that Bangladesh is facing development because it has democracy.

He said they cannot appreciate the development of the country.

"They just try to take advantage," Quader said.

Obaidul Quader said this on Saturday afternoon in front of the central office of the Awami League at Bangabandhu Avenue at a discussion meeting organized by the Freedom of Physicians Parishad (Swachip) on the occasion of the 48th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Mourning Day.

The General Secretary of Awami League said, "BNP is passionate about the development of the country."

"The BNP is in agony of death due to the fear of defeat. The number of activists in BNP rallies has decreased, the length of their rallies has increased, the width has decreased," he said.

Addressing BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam, Obaidul said that if you do politics of hatred, you have to have an opposition party for life.

"Today the World Bank is following the development of Bangladesh. Today the whole world including the IMF appreciates the development of Bangladesh," he said.

Obaidul Quader said, Awami League considers BNP as an opponent.

"BNP considers Awami League as an enemy," Quader said.

Obaidul Quader said that the United States conducted a survey in 64 districts of the country and found the exclusive popularity of the current government.

"BNP's head is upset after seeing the popularity of the government," he said.

He said that any unconstitutional demands of BNP including caretaker government, dissolution of parliament, resignation of Sheikh Hasina will not be accepted.

"The government will not resign, the parliament will not be dissolved. The election will be held under the current EC. Actually come to the election, or don't burn yourself," he said.
