Dhaka, June 3: There is a possibility of multiple deep depressions in the Bay of Bengal this month. There is a risk of a strong nor'wester. There is also a possibility of flash floods due to heavy rains. In addition, moderate levels of heatwaves can spread over some parts of the country.

The information came up at a meeting held at the Meteorological Department on Wednesday (June 2) to review the weather for the past one month and forecast the weather for the next one month. Director of the Directorate Samsuddin presided over the meeting.

Assistant Meteorologist S M Sajib Hossain said an expert committee meeting was held at the beginning of each month under the chairmanship of the director.

The meeting was informed that the rainfall in May was 26.6 percent less than normal. This is the average of the whole country. But Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions received more than normal rainfall and Khulna and Mymensingh divisions received normal rainfall.

The June weather forecast said normal rainfall is expected this month. South-west monsoon winds are likely to blow across the country at the beginning of the month.

It was informed at the meeting that two light pressures may form in the Bay of Bengal this month. One of these can lead to depression or deep depression. North-Central region may experience two to three days of moderate or severe thunderstorms and other parts of the country may experience three to four days of light or moderate thunderstorms.

At the same time, there may be heavy to very heavy rains in some parts of the country. During this month, a mild, ie 36 to 38 degree Celsius or moderate 38 to 40 degree Celsius heatwave may occur.

Heavy rains in June could cause short-term flash floods in the north and northeast of the country and in some parts of the southeast.
