Dhaka, October 28: Bangladesh has improved in the global law and order index. This information has emerged in the report of US-based public opinion polling agency Gallup. The report was released on Wednesday (Oct 26) taking into account the law and order situation last year. Singapore tops the index. Besides, Afghanistan is the lowest in this index. In other words, the Taliban-ruled country is the world's "least safe" country.

According to media reports, Gallup released the Global Law and Order Index-2022 on Wednesday based on the law and order situation in 2021. Singapore is at the top with a score of 96 out of 100 points. Tajikistan (95), Norway (93), Switzerland (92) and Indonesia (92) are in the second, third, fourth and fifth positions respectively.

On the other hand, Afghanistan is the lowest in the index with a score of only 51 out of 100 points. The other four of the bottom 5 countries are Gabon (54), Venezuela (55), Democratic Republic of Congo or DR Congo (58) and Sierra Leone (59). The higher the score, the better the country's law and order situation is considered.

Bangladesh scores 79 out of 100 points on the index. In 2021, this score of Bangladesh was 77. That is, this year the score of Bangladesh has increased by 2 points and shows a better position than before. However, Bangladesh's score in 2020 was 81. As such, although the 2021 index revealed the deterioration of the law and order situation in Bangladesh, it has been largely overcome this year.

Meanwhile, three other South Asian countries are ahead of Bangladesh in the global law and order index. The three countries are Pakistan, Sri Lanka and India. Out of 100 points on the index, Pakistan scores 82, Sri Lanka scores 80 and India also scores 80. Nepal is lagging behind Bangladesh in the index. Their score is 78. In addition, among other countries, the score of the United States is 83, the United Kingdom is 79, Russia is 77, Saudi Arabia is 89 and the United Arab Emirates is 92.

Basically, this score of improvement or deterioration of the law and order situation is determined based on a few questions. For example, whether residents feel safe walking alone at night in their neighborhood or whether residents trust the local police. Besides, being a victim of theft, robbery or assault is also taken into consideration in determining this score.
