Dhaka, 8 August 2021: Today is the 91st birth anniversary of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, the wife of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the inspiration behind the Bengali struggle and movement.

This majestic woman was born on this day in 1930 in Tungipara of the then Gopalganj subdivision of Faridpur.

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman gradually became not only the father of the Bengali nation, but also a world-class statesman in the course of long uncompromising struggle. An important role was played by his wife, the majestic woman Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib.

Begum Mujib lost both her parents when she was only five years old and married Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1936. Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib was not only the wife of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation, but also a comrade-in-arms and a motivator.

This selfless woman took all the responsibilities of Bangabandhu's family on her shoulders and gave Bangabandhu the opportunity to concentrate on the service of the nation. Not only that, she gave constructive advice to Bangabandhu in making decisions in various difficult times of politics.

As a wife of Bangabandhu, she was transformed into a wise and prudent woman in the education of human welfare and politics which she had received from her side for a long time.

Following Bangabandhu's entire political life like a shadow, Begum Mujib was the source of endless inspiration in his every political activity.

After the proclamation of the six-point Charter of Liberation of the Bengali Nation, when Bangabandhu was repeatedly held captive by the Pakistani rulers, the leaders and workers of the party at all levels used to rush to Bangamata.

She would explain to them the various directions of Bangabandhu and inspire them to continue their struggle.

Especially in the Agartala Yarayantra case, when a conspiracy was hatched to endanger the freedom struggle of the Bengali nation with the release of Bangabandhu on parole, Begum Mujib's firm stand against the release on parole accelerated the Bengali liberation struggle. During the great liberation war, she handled the situation with determination without breaking down.

This majestic woman along with her father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and her family were brutally martyred by the bullets of the murderous circle on 15th August. Today, Sunday (August 8), the Bangladesh Awami League will observe the 91st birth anniversary of Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib, the death companion of the Father of the Nation, the majestic woman of Bengal, the inspiration behind all the golden achievements including the independence of Bangladesh.
