Dhaka, 11 September 2022 : Bangladesh Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said that Bangladesh does not want war with Myanmar, but wants to solve the problem peacefully in the tense situation on the border.

On the occasion of the upcoming Durga Puja, the Home Minister said this in response to journalists' questions at the end of the law and order meeting at the Secretariat on Sunday (September 11).

The Arakan Army (AA), a pro-independence armed group, has been fighting with the country's security forces for months in the Walidong hills of Myanmar's Rakhine State, across the Naikshyongchari Ghumdhum border in Bandarban. Bullets fired from Myanmar have already landed inside Bangladesh several times. There is panic among Bangladeshis.

When asked about Bangladesh's next step in this regard, the minister said, "We do not want to fight."

"We will solve the problem peacefully. Today's situation has reduced the ammunition there," the Minister said.

Regarding the allegations of torture in police custody by former Superintendent of Police (SP) Babul Akhtar against six officials including the head of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), the minister said, "Yesterday (Saturday) I said, Babul Akhtar is a clever person. I didn't say anything else. Complaints have been made, it will be investigated, beyond that we cannot do anything. We will see if proper action is taken in the investigation. If not correct, I will take action accordingly."

Last year, an untoward incident took place in Comilla around Durga Puja. Election ahead. When asked whether any separate instructions have been given around Durga Puja, Asaduzzaman Khan said, 'Today's meeting is for that reason.

The second thing is that Bangladesh is a country of non-communal spirit.

Here Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Christians will all live together. Everyone will follow their own religion, the minister said.

Our Prime Minister's saying that religion belongs to everyone, festival is for everyone. That is what is happening in Bangladesh. Our effort is to keep the freshness intact among all. That is the purpose of today's meeting, the minister said.

Regarding whether the intelligence agencies have any information about Puja, the Home Minister said, 'We do not have any information from the intelligence agencies. If there is any information, the security forces will take action accordingly."
