Bangladesh missions instructed to prevent disinformation ahead of elections

Dhaka, August 18: The government has directed all Bangladesh missions abroad to take appropriate steps to prevent misinformation against Bangladesh and the government ahead of the upcoming national elections.

Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Seheli Sabrin told reporters at a weekly briefing at the ministry on Thursday, "A committee consisting of three ministries of information, law and foreign affairs is working on this issue."

She said that Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen had already given instructions to all missions abroad in this regard.

"We think we need to work more proactively," said Sabrin. "Because there may be more propaganda before the next election."

She said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh has been working on this issue for a long time and the missions of Bangladesh abroad have upheld the position of the country in the host countries from where misinformation and misinformation are spread.

The spokesperson said that the Ministry of External Affairs has set up a special cell to facilitate foreign observers for the upcoming national elections.

She said, "If anyone is interested in monitoring the upcoming elections, they should contact the cell. For the convenience of any observer, we will follow our own laws and the rules of the Election Commission."

Sabrin said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not yet received any request from any person or organization regarding election monitoring.
