On behalf of President Abdul Hamid, his military secretary Major General SM Salahuddin Islam laid a wreath at the central Shaheed Minar. On the other hand, on behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her Military Secretary Major General Naqib Ahmad Chowdhury paid homage to the language martyrs at the Central Shaheed Minar.

On the occasion of the day, wreaths were laid at the graves of the martyrs at Azimpur Cemetery with black badges and morning ferry.

On the occasion of Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day, the President said. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina delivered separate messages.

Since the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) recognized the International Mother Language Day in honor of the great Ekushey, the day has been celebrated internationally for the past few years.

This day is a day of extreme grief and sorrow for the Bengali nation. On the other hand, the mother tongue is manifested in the glory of supreme sacrifice for the realization of the rights of Bengal. The greatest and rarest legacy for any nation is the legacy of death জানা the legacy of knowing and being able to die. On the 21st of February, 1952, the martyrs left a great and rare legacy to the nation.

On this day in 1952, people of all walks of life, including the students and youth of Bengal (then East Pakistan), spontaneously took to the streets in defiance of Article 144 of the then ruling party's eye-rolling and administration to demand that 'Bangla' be made the state language. Salam, Jabbar, Shafiq, Barkat and Rafiq were shot dead when police opened fire on a student procession that day as the Pakistani rulers were alarmed by the relentless pace in the movement to establish the mother tongue.

Sardar Fazlul Karim, a prominent educationist, wrote in his essay 'Bayannar O Aghe' about their self-sacrifice, 'We love Barkat, Salam. But more than that, Barkat Salam loves us. They have saved our lives with their lives because they love us. They have touched our lives with nectar. We are soaked in that juice one by one, by each and every one. ’

In keeping with the national program on the occasion of the day, all educational institutions of the country, all local government institutions, district and upazila administrations, Bangladesh missions abroad have taken various programs following the appropriate hygiene rules considering the current Covid-19 situation.
