Own Correspondent, Dhaka, January 22: Earl R. Miller left Dhaka for his homeland on Friday (January 21) after serving more than three years as the US Ambassador to Bangladesh. Saying goodbye to Dhaka, the US Ambassador recalled his time in Bangladesh and his fond memories.

Miller said on the Facebook wall of the US Embassy in Dhaka, "My dearest memory will be the warmth and courtesy of the people of Bangladesh. In the last 35 years as an American diplomat, I have never worked in a country where people are so hospitable, thoughtful and friendly."

In another message, the ambassador shared his best memories in Bangladesh. Miller said he will recall the colors of the rickshaws and the faces of the drivers, the rooftops of Old Dhaka and the kites, those dancing on a string and the birds in the evening sky, children in school uniforms walking home on a village road, the ship filled rivers of Chittagong, the moon boats of Cox’s Bazar - the most beautiful boats in the world, the dark green hills of Sylhet and iridescent green of Barishal, and morning mist on the mountains of Bandarban and on the mangroves of the Sundarbans.

Due to the Corona situation, the US Ambassador could not meet President Md. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. However, he had a farewell meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, Advisor to the Prime Minister on International Affairs Dr. Gowher Rizvi, Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen, Law Minister Anisul Haque, Agriculture Minister Dr. Abdur Razzak and Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen.

Miller joined as the US Ambassador to Bangladesh on November 18, 2018. Before coming to Dhaka, he served as the US Ambassador to Botswana from 2014 till 2018.
