Dhaka, September 11: Another 54 lakh doses of Sinopharm's coronavirus vaccine from China have arrived in the country. The vaccines arrived at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on a Bangladesh Biman flight at 12:45 am on Saturday.

Airport Health Officer Dr Sajjad Hossain told the media that MNC&H line director Dr Md Shamsul Haque and other officials of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) received the vaccine consignment at the airport. They were later sent to storage. With this, Bangladesh received a total of 1 crore 99 lakh 1 thousand 350 doses of Sinopharm vaccine.

On May 12, for the first time, five lakh Sinopharm vaccines came to the country. Those vaccines were given as gifts to Bangladesh by the Chinese government. Then, on May 19, the government gave policy approval for the direct purchase of the SARS-Cov-2-Vaccine made by Chinese Sinopharm.

Then came the purchase and gift vaccine from China. The two countries have also agreed to jointly produce vaccines. Earlier on May 8, the World Health Organization approved the emergency use of the vaccine. Then Bangladesh also approved its use.
