Dhaka: A court has sentenced Shahed Karim alias Mohammad Shahed, chairman of Regent Group and Regent Hospital Limited, to life imprisonment in a case filed under the Arms Act.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Kayesh passed the order on Monday (September 26th). The charges against Saheed were proved in a case filed under Section 19 (a) of the Arms Act of 18. The court also sentenced him to seven years in prison under Section 19 (f) of the Arms Act. The court ruled that both sentences would run concurrently.

Expressing satisfaction over the verdict, Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor (PP) Abdullah Abu said, "The verdict of the case has proved that Shahed is a criminal." This verdict will be an example to the society. '

Shahid's lawyer Moniruzzaman said, "We were not satisfied with the verdict. We will go to the high court against the verdict. '

Observing the verdict, the judge said, "There are many people in our society who are as polite as Shahid. The verdict in this case will serve as an example. Shahed bought the car with a loan of Tk 20 lakh. But he did not admit it to the court. Despite knowing that, Shahid gave false information to the court. Shahid is a very clever and cunning person. He could not get any mercy from the court as it was proved that Shahed was carrying a weapon in his car.

On July 8, RAB raided the Uttara and Mirpur branches of the Regent Hospital. During the operation, fake corona test reports, various irregularities including collection of money from patients in the name of corona treatment came up. Shahed fled after the incident. On July 15, RAB arrested Shahed from the border area of Satkhira. Later he was brought to Dhaka from Satkhira by helicopter.
