Bangladesh still at the top in green factories, three new added

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Sept 14: Eighty-four percent of the country's export income comes from the garment sector. However, amid the outbreak of the epidemic coronavirus, there was extreme concern about this sector. Many orders were cancelled. But it is not too late to face the situation and return to self. Cancelled orders kept coming back within a short period of time. As a result, the clothing sector has shown surprise even in the midst of Corona.

At the same time, the number of environment-friendly green factories has also increased. Bangladesh was already at the top of the list of green factories in the world. Names of three more factories have been added to this list. They are Sharaf Apparels Washing and Dyeing of Narsingdi, Debnair Limited and Orbitex Knitwear Limited of Ashulia, and Fatulla Apparels of Narayanganj.

With this, the number of green factories in the country has increased to 171. Another 550 factories are in the process of being named in this list. According to the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), an organization of ready-made garment owners and exporters.

It is known that the US-based organization 'US Green Building Council (USGBC) Energy and Environment Design (LEED)'. This organization gives certificates to the factories of different countries of the world. Buyers consider whether the LED has a green factory certificate or not while purchasing apparel from a factory.

According to the information from Energy and Environment Design, the number of green factories in Bangladesh is now 171. Of these, 53 are in the platinum category. Besides, 104 in the gold category, and 10 in silver. Four are certified. Moreover, there are still 550 more factories in the pipeline or registration to become green factories.
