Bangladesh summons Myanmar envoy, lodges strong protest

Dhaka, 18 September 2022 : One person was killed in Bandarban, Bangladesh due to a mortar shell fired from Myanmar.

In this incident, the country's ambassador U Aung Kyaw Mo was summoned to Dhaka and protested strongly. The ambassador of the military republic was summoned for the fourth time in a month.

On Sunday (September 18) afternoon, Dhaka summoned the Myanmar ambassador to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and strongly protested. Nazmul Huda, Director General of South East Asia Wing of the Ministry of External Affairs summoned him.

Last Friday (September 16) night, the mortar shell exploded at the Ghumdhum Ghonarpara border in Bandarban. A Rohingya youth named Mohammad Iqbal (28) was killed in this. At least eight others were injured. Before this, on September 4, the Director General of the Myanmar Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mia Mynul Kabir, summoned Ambassador U Aung Kyaw Mo and issued a protest letter in the same incident.

On August 20 and 28, mortar shells from Myanmar reached the Bangladesh border. Because of that, Dhaka protested by calling the Myanmar ambassador on August 21 and 29. Such incidents are said to be happening in the continuation of the conflict between the government forces and the rebel groups in Rakhine. However, keeping everything in mind, Bangladesh has maintained maximum vigilance at the border.

It is known that due to this recent situation, the situation is prevailing in the Myanmar border area including Bandarban. However, Bangladesh is always talking about a diplomatic solution to such unrest.
