Bangladesh to observe Durga Puja from Monday

Dhaka, October 11: The five-day Durga Puja begins today (October 11) with the Maha Sasthi Puja. Surrounding this largest religious festival of the Hindu community, the mood of the festival is now prevailing all over the country. This time Durgotsab is being held in 32,118 puja marquees across the country. There will be 238 pujas in Dhaka metropolis. Four more than last time.

According to the Hindu calendar, this time Goddess Durga is coming on horseback. Horses are one of the most used vehicles in war. The sound of horses' feet also indicates war. Therefore, according to the calendar, the arrival of the horse means disintegration. In other words, there is a possibility of war, unrest and violence at this time. The calendar says, Goddess Durga is depart in a swing this time. The result of which is plague.

Meanwhile, the awakening of Goddess Durga was held in puja mandapas across the country on Sunday.

On the occasion of Durgotsab, President Md. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina sent separate greetings and congratulations to the people.

Police, Ansar, RAB and BDR members will be responsible for the security of every puja marquee across the country including the capital Dhaka. In addition to the police and the RAB, volunteer forces will be on duty in almost every marquee. A central control room has been opened at Dhakeswari Mandir Melangan on the initiative of Mahanagar Sarvajanin Puja Committee.

According to the Bangladesh Puja Celebration Council, Durga Puja was held in 31,398 marquees across the country in 2019 and 30,213 in 2020. Durga Puja will be held in 32,118 marquees across the country this year.

The number of pujas has increased by 1,905 this time as compared to last year. There will be 238 pujas in Dhaka this year, which is four more than last year.

This year, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given a grant of Tk 3 crore on the occasion of Durga Puja, which is Tk 1 crore more than last time. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the puja celebration council has requested the devotees to limit themselves to puja by avoiding the issues related to the festival.
