Dhaka, April 8: Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen said, "The excellent bilateral and friendly relations between Bangladesh and the United States will be further strengthened in the future."

He said he had "very cordial and hopeful talks" with US Secretary of State Blinken in Washington on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Dhaka and Washington.

He was speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Miami, USA on Wednesday evening.

Dr. Momen read out a congratulatory message from the US President Joe Biden to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

"We are celebrating 50 years of bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the United States on April 4, which is an important milestone for us," he said, quoting a statement from Biden's letter. After the war of liberation in 1971, Bangladesh has now become a model for other countries in the world in terms of people's all-out efforts to build a war-torn country, enriching the country, economic growth and development through innovative efforts.

"In his letter, Joe Biden reaffirmed that the partnership of the United States with Bangladesh will undoubtedly be even stronger in the next 50 years," he said.

Congratulating the Bangladeshis living in Florida on the occasion of the inauguration of the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Miami, the Foreign Minister said, "The Prime Minister has given permission for the establishment of this Consulate General of Bangladesh in Miami to provide necessary services to Bangladeshis living in Florida at their request."

The national anthems of Bangladesh and the United States were played at the beginning of the program. The Foreign Minister then paid homage to the portrait of Bangabandhu at the Bangabandhu Corner at the Consulate. Later, the Foreign Minister cut the ribbon and inaugurated the Consulate General.
