Bangladesh welcomes the ICJ verdict in favor of Guyana
Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 18 September 2023: Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen said Bangladesh welcomed the International Court of Justice (ICJ) verdict in favor of Guyana. According to a press release received in Dhaka on Monday, the foreign minister made this comment while chairing the virtual meeting of the Commonwealth Ministerial Group on Guyana (CMGG) held on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Sunday.
Speaking at the meeting, Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen said, "I look forward to expressing our unwavering support for Guyana's territorial integrity, in accordance with our normal discussions, cordiality and continued views of the Chiefs."
He mentioned that Bangladesh is pleased to continue as the main chair of the Commonwealth Ministerial Group on Guyana. Commonwealth Secretary General Patricia Scotland gave the opening remarks.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Michael E. Brotherson, Consul General of the Consulate General of Guyana in New York, presented an update on recent developments. CMGG Ministers participated in the discussion session and agreed to prepare an outcome statement to inform the Commonwealth Foreign Ministers meeting on 21 September 2023.
