Own Correspondent, Dhaka, March 10: Minister of State for Disaster Management and Relief, Dr. Md. Enamur Rahman, said "With the technical and financial support of the Government of Japan and JICA, Bangladesh will become an earthquake tolerant country by 2071."

The Minister of State said this while speaking as the chief guest at an earthquake and fire awareness raising exercise organized in collaboration with Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defense on the occasion of National Disaster Preparedness Day at Motijheel in the capital on Wednesday.

He said the earthquake was a natural calamity which could not be predicted or forecast yet. If there is public awareness and preparedness, it is possible to reduce the loss of life and property by dealing with major earthquakes and fires. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government is working towards that goal.

Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Md. Kamrul Hasan presided over the function and President of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry Rezwan Rahman also spoke at the event.
