Dhaka, January 16: India considers Bangladesh as a priority country among the neighboring countries in receiving the Covid-19 vaccine. India is preparing to launch the world's largest immunization program today.

Citing a government official in New Delhi, the state-run news agency BSS said that according to India's First Neighborhood Policy-2021, neighboring countries would be vaccinated on a priority basis. Among the neighbors, Bangladesh must be the first priority for this purpose.

Asked about the exact date of export of Indian vaccine to Bangladesh, the official, who did not want to be named, said that Bangladesh, as a priority country for India, would soon get the vaccine.

Foreign Office spokesperson Anurag Srivastava was asked a similar question during a virtual media briefing in New Delhi on Thursday. He said India was still evaluating production schedule and availability (vaccine) to decide on the matter.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent speech on India's vaccine cooperation, he said India's capacity to produce and supply vaccines would be used for the benefit of all people in tackling the crisis.

Meanwhile, Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Sringla, while commenting on Indian vaccine exports, recently told the media that India would provide Covid-19 vaccine to Bangladesh on a priority basis. So Bangladesh has nothing to worry about. He added that as a priority country for India, Bangladesh will get vaccines produced in the country from the very beginning.
